Support

Please check operation with the advert subsidised version of Sim-EFIS with your simulator thoroughly before purchasing the ad free version.

The app provides detailed help under the "?" icon.

The following section covers some common configuration questions and issues:

  • Sim-EFIS is not connecting to my flight simulator

    • Check that your computer firewall is not blocking traffic on the selected UDP port. Default ports are:

      • IL2 1946: Port 11946

      • X-Plane: Port 49000

      • DCS: Port 45000

      • FlightGear: Port 51000

      • Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020: Port 52020

    • Check that your router / switch is not blocking traffic on the selected UDP port. The mobile app also receives traffic on UDP. It will try to use a fixed set of ports, but will use others if not available. Please open for all UDP traffic port 30000 and above if you are experiencing problems. The default ports used by the mobile app are:

      • IL2 1946: Port 51946

      • X-Plane: Port 49010

      • DCS: Port 52000

      • FlightGear: Port 51000

      • Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020: Port 50000

    • Check the IP address that you are connecting to, by default the mobile app will try detect the appropriate local network to connect on, and will scan for the flight simulator on that network. Change the network if required.

    • In some cases the process of scanning for the flight simulator fails, when no response is obtained a few times. The mobile operating system disables further communication in some way (still investigating why). This happens most on apple devices. If this does happen, specify the exact IP of the machine running the flight simulator and avoid using the scanning feature.

  • After playing for a while, Sim-EFIS no longer shows instrument state

    • Some of the simulator plugins lose state when missions are restarted and thus no longer communicate with Sim-EFIS. You can click on the red square (the connection indicator) to re-establish the connection.

  • Some of my instruments aren't working, but others are.

    • Not all simulators support all instruments.

    • For example, IL2 1946 does not provide GPS coordinates, and thus the moving map display will not function.

    • DCS also has inconsistent reporting of instrument state depending on the aircraft in use, some aircraft provide RPM information, some do not.

    • Please check operation with the advert subsidised version of Sim-EFIS with your simulator before purchasing the ad free version.

  • How do I setup IL2 1946?

    • Add the following to conf.ini

[DeviceLink]

port=11946

    • Setup Sim-EFIS to connect to IL2. Note that maps are not available.

  • How do I setup DCS?

    • Download export.lua (click on this file) and place it in C:\Users\<YourUserName>\Saved Games\DCS\Scripts\Export.lua.

    • Run DCS normally, you should be able to connect.

    • The DCS plugin will forget Sim-EFIS between missions, so reconnect as necessary (see above).

  • How do I setup FlightGear?

    • Download sim-efis-flightgear.xml (click on this file) and place it in C:\Program Files\FlightGear 2020.3\data\Protocols (update for your installation location and version. See the app for other Mac and Linux configuration.

    • Run FlightGear with command line options (set as appropriate in your launcher): fgfs --generic=socket,out,20,{MyIP},{MyPort},udp,sim-efis-flightgear.

    • Note that the IP and port (above) is supplied by Sim-EFIS app when you select "Detailed Configuration" in "SIMULATOR SETUP".

  • How do I setup Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020?

    • Sim-EFIS requires third party software to be installed to connect to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.

    • Install instrument-data-link v1.6.2 from the zip file (click the link) hosted on github.

    • Run instrument-data-link.exe before starting MSFS2020.

    • The instrument-data-link used is a modified version of Scott Vincent's instrument-data-link software. Note that Scott Vincent's version is not currently compatible with Sim-EFIS.

  • How do I setup X-Plane?

    • Sim EFIS sets up everything automatically. There should be no need to setup anything on X-Plane, unless there are problems with communication to X-Plane. Exact settings that are required for manual setup are provided in the app help screen.
